Fabulous Things to Do During Fall

Jim Bishop, American journalist and author, once said, “Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.” While many may be sad to see summer go, the changing of the seasons and all of the splendor that comes along with it more than makes up for any feelings of loss.

There are literally endless ways to celebrate autumn. While most activities are free or inexpensive, in today’s busy world, there’s often too much to do and too little time to do it. Thankfully, no matter what your favorite activities are, this go-to guide will help you kick off your fall celebrations.

Fall Baking – Your windows are open and a cool breeze is blowing through your house, but you won’t catch a chill because your oven is radiating warmth and heavenly smells. From an apple crumble pie to pumpkin spice and everything nice, there’s nothing like working by a warm oven on a crisp, autumn day as you bake something that makes your whole house smell delicious and brings smiles to your family’s faces. 

Leaf Peeping – When the leaves begin to change and their colors explode in radiant reds, oranges, purples and yellows, it’s the perfect time to go for a road trip down that sleepy little country road for a bit of leaf peeping. Scavenger Hunts – Cooler temperatures make it enjoyable to spend a day outside. Make things even more interesting by putting together a scavenger hunt for the whole family. Corn Mazes – Here’s a classic! Go with a group and don’t get lost. The more challenging the maze, the better. Perhaps leave a trail of candy corn or painted pine cones behind you so you know where you’ve been.

Tailgating – Fall means football, and tailgating is a popular pastime for sports lovers. Make game day an even bigger event with the addition of tasty fall treats, like sausage meatballs, stuffed jalapenos, your favorite classic chili recipe, or some hot caramel cider!

Hunting – It’s time to get all of your hunting gear out and prepare for your next wilderness adventure. Camping – Go off the grid for a fall camping trip! During the day, hike through the woods and marvel at the changing colors of the leaves. In Your Own Backyard – There are so many fun things that you can do in your own backyard this fall. Before you rake up those leaves to jump in later, first pick the prettiest to craft with and examine with your kiddos. It’s also a great time to plant fall flowers and feed the birds as they begin their migrations. Grab some of those pine cones from the ground and make your own bird feeders by covering them in peanut butter and bird seed.

Pumpkins Galore – Visit your local pumpkin patch to select only the finest gourds for pie baking, carving or to grace your front porch this season. These events typically include yummy foods and beautiful décor items to haul home with pride.
