Are You Ready for Winter Weather Hazards? | Shelter Insurance®

‌Winter weather can wreak havoc on your home in ways you probably never expected. Heavy snow on the roof could cause it to collapse. Clogged gutters could prevent water from running off your roof when snow and ice melt. If the water refreezes, it could cause ice dams, which can cause water to seep into your walls and ceilings.

Winter also brings the potential for damage to your car—not only because of salt on the roads, but also because snow and ice can add up to dicey driving conditions. Obviously it's important to know how to drive in snow and ice and what items to have in your car in case you get stuck. You may also want to think about adding comprehensive and collision coverages to your auto policy if you don't already have them, just in case.

Although January is prime time for winter weather, it's a great time of year to test your coverage knowledge and talk to your local Shelter agent. Together you'll be able to determine if there are any gaps in your coverage—and you may even find a discount or two along the way!
