Construction Begins on Shelter's New Building

On June 12, 2018, Coil Construction broke ground for the new Shelter Insurance^® claims building at Broadway and Ash Street in Columbia.

The new 100,000 square foot, two-story building will be located north of our home office building and will be the new location of our local claims office and our graphic design team. It will also serve as a distribution center for the company’s shipping, receiving and print and mailing operations. The new building will face Ash Street and will include additional space to support other Shelter business functions as needed.

The new building will be energy efficient and will feature LEED products and geothermal energy. In addition, the building will offer high security and safety features for our employees.

“This new building is a sign of our continued success,” said Shelter CEO and Chairman of the Board Rick Means. “Our companies are growing and expanding into new areas, and with that comes the need for additional staff, technology and space. We believe this building will meet those needs very well.”

Construction of the new building is scheduled to begin in June 2018. After June 13, the south entrance to Shelter Gardens will be the primary entrance to the Gardens during construction and can be accessed from Broadway. Traffic and parking patterns will change during construction.
