Benefits of Being a Shelter Agent

Medical, dental and prescription drug coverage is offered for commissioned agents. This coverage is also available for a commissioned agent's spouse and children. The cost of the group health insurance premium is shared between the agent and the company.
Coverage equal to three times the annual earnings rounded to the next $1,000 is offered for commissioned agents. A maximum of $200,000 of coverage is available, with the cost shared between the agent and the company. Up to $10,000 of group life insurance may be purchased for the agent's spouse. Coverage of up to $5,000 is available for each of the agent's children as well.
Supplemental Life Insurance
Commissioned agents may purchase supplemental life insurance equal to their annual salary.
Personal Accident Insurance
Commissioned agents may purchase optional low-cost accident coverage in multiples of $10,000 with a maximum of $300,000. Coverage is also available for family members.
After six months of continuous employment, commissioned agents are provided with long-term disability insurance benefits at a percentage of their pay. The cost of long-term disability insurance is shared by the agent and the company.
All commissioned agents, their spouses, and children living in the agent's residence are eligible to join the Shelter Insurance Federal Credit Union. The credit union provides savings accounts, share draft (checking) accounts, Christmas Club accounts, and auto and signature loans.
Scholarships for Children of Employees/Agents
The Shelter Insurance Foundation provides college scholarships for the children of agents and employees. Agents and employees are eligible for this benefit after two years of service if the child meets certain eligibility criteria. A limited number of scholarships are available and a committee appointed by the foundation selects the recipients.
Employee Assistance Program
The LifeWorks® program resources are available to Shelter agents, employees, and their families. This innovative benefit is designed to provide confidential assistance with work and life balance and other personal matters at no cost to the employee.
Shelter Travel is a full-service travel agency available to all agents for both business and personal travel. With a single phone call you may purchase airline tickets and make hotel, car or tour reservations.

The Transitional Agent Contract program allows you to begin your career as an independent contractor, with a contract, while working towards the opportunity to become a permanent independent contractor.
